22/07/2013 - In honour of World Youth Day, the John Paul II Foundation for Youth, in colaboration with the ministers of Italy and Brazil, has organised a conference entitled: “The youth of WYD, guardians of creation.”
Among the participants was the Bishop of Rio, as well as the President of WYD’s Local Committee, Mgr. Orani Tempesta, and the ministers of Italy and Brazil.
Cardinal Rylko, the president of the Pontifical Council for the Laity opened the session by remembering that “the Bible teaches us what the fundamental poles are of the ecological problem. Furthermore, it reminds us that if the weight of sin also disfigured the relationship of man with creation, Christ’s Redemption has reset the fracture.”
In keeping with the tone of the conference - that took place at the Pontifical Catholic University - the following manifesto was presented: “The youth of WYD, guardians of creation: the people-oriented future that we want.”
Cardinal Rylko underlined how the initiaive of writing and publishing a similar text would have been very apt because “it ticks a WYD box that would otherwise have been left incomplete, if not totally empty.”
