On Friday November 14th 2014, the Pontifical Council for the Laity granted a decree confirming the recognition of the Apostolat Militaire International (AMI) as an International Association of the Faithful.

The decree was presented by His Eminence Cardinal Stanislaw Rylko to the President of AMI, Major General Norbert Sinn.

The Apostolat Militaire International was established in 1965, after a meeting of Catholics from the armed forces of ten countries, held in Santiago de Compostela (Spain). Its activities led to a first recognition by the Holy See in 1985.

Currently drawing together military federations from forty countries, Apostolat Militaire International promotes a Christian vision of military life in the noble service of building lasting peace and justice (AMI Statutes, art. 1), supporting the spiritual and pastoral needs of members of the armed forces in the special task all military personnel have as “the agents of security and freedom of peoples” (Pastoral Constitution Gaudium et Spes,  no. 79).
